US Approves Four-Year Seafood Export Permit for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s seafood industry has achieved a significant milestone after the United States granted a four-year export permit, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry confirmed on Saturday.

According to the minister, the approval marks an international acknowledgment of Pakistan’s seafood quality standards, affirming that the country’s fisheries meet strict U.S. benchmarks. This development will ensure a stable supply of Pakistani seafood to one of the most lucrative global markets.

Highlighting the sector’s recent performance, Chaudhry revealed that Pakistan exported 242,000 tons of fish during the last fiscal year, generating $489 million in foreign exchange. With the U.S. market now accessible for the next four years, the government expects seafood exports to climb, targeting revenues of up to $600 million in the coming year.

The minister added that the approval not only secures long-term stability for the country’s seafood trade but also strengthens Pakistan’s credibility in international markets and opens new opportunities for the fishing community.

“This is a proud moment for Pakistan. Our fisheries have proven that they meet global standards and are ready to compete with the best in the world,” he remarked.

In a related development, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb hinted at potential U.S. investments across various sectors following successful trade talks in Washington. He noted that Pakistan’s negotiations with the U.S. were highly productive, describing them as a step forward for economic growth and foreign investment opportunities.

Aurangzeb emphasized that Pakistan is moving in the right direction and expressed confidence that the positive outcomes of these negotiations will soon translate into long-term benefits for the country’s economy.
