The name of this central province literally means the Five-Rivers. This name refers to the five flowing rivers that stream through this beautiful land. It is the most historic yet advanced province of all that are part of the country. It has the most fertile land (in countryside areas or called Villages) the most crowded cities (Lahore, Faisalabad) which are historic yet developed to the extent and Travel destinations like Murree, Nathiagali etc. We’ll talk about the history of Punjab, Geography, the specialties of Punjab, and the customs of natives in this region as well.

It is a fact that Punjab is the-most developed, populous, and prosperous province of Pakistan having about 60% of the country’s total population living here. It’s native customs, festivals are outstanding, but we’ll talk about that later on.
Origin of Punjab
This region has been part of Sindu Sapta Civilization. but in the course of time southern Sindh was shrieked to a small province and Punjab became a larger and more prosperous region of the area.
Name of Punjab
The name of this province was introduced by the by the Mughals in the 17th Century AD. It is a combination of the Persian words panj (five) and āb (water), thus the (land of) five rivers. The five rivers which flow thru Punjab are the tributaries of the Indus River namely Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, Sutlej and Sindhu River itself.
Ancient History
In the Rigveda, the sacred text of Vedism, the Punjab region is associated with the ancient Sapta Sindhu, the Land of Seven Rivers, whilst the later Greeks referred to Punjab as Pentapotamia, an inland delta of five converging rivers. The British used to call Punjab “Our Prussia.”
Major Cities
The capital and largest city of this region is Lahore which was the historical capital of the India during the rule of Mughal and Sikh Empire. Other important cities of Punjab include Gujrat, Multan, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Jhelum and Rawalpindi. Every city has its own unique identity and lifestyle. Natives here are mostly Muslims, so they have the main affect on customs, norms, festivals and the way of celebration, but people of other religions celebrate all the events, customs and norms in their own way.
