Special Remission Announced
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a special remission of 180 days in prison sentences. The announcement was made on the blessed occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
Decision After Cabinet Advice
The decision came under Article 45 of the Constitution. The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Federal Cabinet had initially proposed a 100-day remission. Later, after consultation, the President extended it to 180 days.
Prisoners Eligible and Ineligible
The remission will apply only to prisoners who meet the legal criteria. However, it will not apply to those convicted of:
- Murder
- Terrorism
- Espionage
- Anti-state activities
- Rape, theft, robbery, and kidnapping
- Major financial crimes
Message on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal
On 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal, President Zardari called it a historic and sacred occasion. He urged the nation to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), stressing compassion, equality, and brotherhood.
Call for Unity and Guidance
The President stated that the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) offers timeless guidance. He emphasized that solutions to the challenges of the Muslim Ummah lie in the light of Seerat-un-Nabi.
